Bouldering is one of the most popular sports in Switzerland. Marmi’s also a fan and is good at climbing.
Marmi goes past a strange building. Inside, people are climbing up the walls and then letting themselves fall down again. “Bouldering” is the name of the sporting trend that manages the risks of climbing in the mountains and brings it to the cities.
Instead of climbing mountain peaks of 2,000 metres and more, bouldering is only allowed up to 4.5 metres. So you don’t even need a climbing rope or a climbing harness. If there’s space to fall, you can simply drop onto the soft mat. Inexperienced climbers need to be taught how to jump down in a controlled manner and how to warm up.
Indoor bouldering is a sport that many people can do, from couch potatoes to fitness fanatics. When bouldering, you use almost every muscle in your body to find the right grip/step sequence. It takes core strength, but also good coordination between your brain, eyes, feet and hands. Bouldering does not require any special equipment; all you need is an annual subscription to the bouldering hall of your choice.
Sport climbing has been an Olympic sport since 2021. This has little to do with the more leisurely sport of bouldering, which is more like getting back in touch with yourself and your own body. Like climbing-wall yoga.
It’s easy to get started on the indoor climbing wall. Just put on some comfortable clothes, clip your fingernails and toenails and you’re all set. You can rent shoes and magnesium chalk in the climbing halls. When you feel comfortable enough, you can climb using the different difficulty-based colour-coded routes. Another tip – overhanging boulders put strain on your arms, it takes a lot of strength to keep your arms bent.
Marmi, on the other hand, is loving it! He’s dashing up and down the blocks and hold points like a world champion. It’s easy, anyone can do it! Even Marmi. The young man scrambling up the wall with a loud groan of exertion would disagree.
