Summer toboggan runs are fun for people looking for recreation in Switzerland’s leisure parks. Marmi wants to go racing down the mountains too.
Marmi explores the wider area around his burrow and discovers a metallic snake. It’s long and winding. He approaches it cautiously. Someone suddenly whizzes past him, down into the valley. Hey, Marmi now wants to do that, too!
Summer toboggan runs are great fun. There are two types of run. Alpine coasters are similar to rollercoasters at funfairs. These are runs guided by rails. The sledges normally have a backrest and a safety belt. And they need to, because alpine coasters are fast, up to 50 km/h.
Natural toboggan runs are completely different. Here, the sledge moves freely in a trough. There’s no safety belt. No problem if you keep your speed under control with the brake lever between your legs. And also keep to some basic rules: distance of at least 25 metres to the toboggan in front of you, or at least 50 metres in wet weather. Bags, hats, mobile phones and other belongings should be left behind. You’re bound to lose them. You also shouldn’t look back to wave to others during the run. And definitely don’t stop.
Marmi’s certainly not planning on that. He hops onto a passing toboggan and whizzes down into the valley.
