Marmi uses a leisure portal to find the Aare rubber rafting trip starting in Uttigen near Thun. According to the website, it’s the classic and most popular trip.

The trip to Bern in the brightly coloured rubber raft takes just under three hours. Marmi is very excited. He has always wanted to float down the Aare with the sun shining on his furry belly. It will make a change from cavorting on alpine meadows. Marmi wants to explore the rest of Switzerland! Starting with the Aare.
First, Marmi gets his inflatable boat checked at the Aare-Lädeli shop. Of course, the boat mustn’t be overloaded. “I don’t want to drown in the Aare”, Marmi laughs. Marmi listens carefully because safety comes first. He learns about keeping his distance from bridge piers and keeping his distance from other rafts. Rivers are unpredictable, so you have to wear a life jacket. Marmi also gets detailed information about the route and the exit points in Bern.
Marmi gets into the rented rubber raft above the Uttiger Schwelle rapids and sets off. He gets the hang of steering after just a few metres. You can mostly let yourself drift down the Aare, but you always have to correct your course from time to time. Less experienced rafters can start below the rapids and float gently down to Bern. There are always secluded places to stop along the way. The final disembarkation at Camping Eichholz is easy. Marmi arrives in good spirits, pulls the boat ashore and whistles Stiller Has’s famous Aare song. Rafting on the Aare is cool. Marmi plans to take more trips on other rivers soon. For example, on the High Rhine, from Stein am Rhein to the historic town of Schaffhausen. The most popular trips for inflatable rafts also include sections on the Ticino, the Rhone and the Reuss. Marmi would also like to meet up with his old friend Biberli there.
